Which Cutting discs?
Hi all,
I am curious as to which cutting wheels you use for your angle grinder?
Most people I know of use Flexovit wheels from Bunnings and the like but
I like These ones for my 5" Bosch grinder. They are more flexible, cut faster and the
resin and glass bond seems better. I get mine from steel companies like Onesteel
and Metalcorp for about $2.70 per wheel compared to about $2.90 at Bunnings.
Do you use the Flexovit "Bread and Butter" wheels or something more exotic?

I do not have heavy use of my grinder, but find the Flexovit 1mm OK.
I have a small stand that I use when doing a lot of cuts, Less effort and more accurate than freehand - so flexibility is not an issue.
The Bosch branded thicker cut-off and grinding disks that came with the grinder seem to last well.
(Bosch blue 5inch BSGWS850CKIT)
I have heard the Hitachi branded ones last well.

Yeah I've seen them cutting stands. I'd rather use my chop saw but I can get away with some pretty
accurate freehand stuff with a 1mm INOX wheel.

I use the Flexovit, from memory I picked up a box of 100 4" for $176, was awhile ago.
Never had any reason to try other brands.

I bought a box of 100 of these ones and can't pick any difference to the flexovit discs I was using previously. There might be other discs that are better quality out there but for slightly over a buck a disc including postage you can't really go wrong I think. I also go some flap wheels at the same time which where ok too.

How would you rate the Smith and Arrow flap discs against Josco or Brumby discs?
It's hard for me to find a good flap disc that doesnt wear too fast but still grinds good.
It's obvious now that alot are using Flexovit so I invite you all to just go buy 1 PFerd disc
if they are in your area and give them a go and so I don't eat my words, I'll buy a 5 pack of the eBay discs.Last edited by distractor; 8th August 2010 at 06:59 PM. Reason: spelling

Ive found virtually no difference among the various cutting and grinding disks on the market.................We get supplied with Flexovit gear @ work and agree that the very thin cut off wheels are great for quick cuts with a fine kerf line.............
I seem to get a little better wear out of the thin Pferd (My Fav Brand) cutt off wheels but at the end of the day the difference is negligible...........
Flap disks on the other hand a a whole different kettle of fish U get much better wear using a variable speed grinder @ 3/4 max setting & good quality disks. My Fav flap disks are MAgnum cooltop 3's, Pferd & Flexovit..........
In a nutshell if you can get good prices on standard cutting disks n grinding wheels go with that however it may be worth while spending a little more on quality flap disks..........
depending on the type of job your doing............

I don't think the smith and arrow flap discs are as good as the josco ones but I haven't really had a chance to tests them back to back on the same work. The couple I did use lost their bite fairly quickly but it was probably a situation where I should have been using a grinding wheel instead.

i use klingspor they lats longer than the flexvite ones
i generally use 200 discs per month in 230mm and 125 mm so i have tried others to save money but always end up back with the klingspor
i tried a wurth disc a rep gave me the other day nice fast cut but 2 cuts compared to 8 on the klingspor told him no thanks

I have used a couple of brands including (shock horror gasp) no name brands from junk shops which i won't ever touch again. I have a 3 inch gash in my old shed wall beacuse one of these el cheapo cutting wheels let fly and sent schrapnel everywhere.
Had a full face shield on and that got beaten up a bit but no human damage to myself.
I use Flexovit now and won't change.I make sawdust with powertools.

After using a few different brands of 1mm disks, my vote is for the Hitachi, they last 2 or 3 times as long as Flexovit and 10 times longer than the cheapies.
Cheers
Graeme
