MIG TIG welder needed
I need to get some square tube 75mm SS welded to make a base for an outdoor table, two inverted U's for table and same for 2 benches.
I have tried two places and whilst they appear to welcome the work they never get around to a quote.
Anyone know anyone who can help - Sydney based?Bodgy

Didn't think one could arc weld stainless.
The joins need to be ground back to leave a polished finish, indistinguishable from the metal.Bodgy

Would suggest if thats the case best to get them TIG welded.
Depending on the thickness of your material you might have luck trying a sheet metal shop.
Yes you can Arc weld stainless theres not a great deal of metals that you cant.

Yes, I think its best outsourced. The stock is over $600 and I only have a cheap stick welder. Also the stock is quite thin.
ThanksBodgy

Hey Bodgy,
TIG welding is really the only way to weld stainless steel unless it is thick section.
TIG welding allows for the material to be welded at as low a current as possible which is necessary because of the very poor thermal conductivity of the material. Poor thermal conductivity means distortion which in turn is directly proportional to heat input.
A competent TIG operator will successfully complete the job for you compared to a possible disaster with your stick welder.
Regards, Ted.
