set up a hub for the 15kg spool behind your welder and drill a hole in the #### to feed the wire through to the feed rolls!

I know it looks dodgey but this is how ive done it for a while now. I always wear safety glasses and heavy gloves for safety though. And use the clamp to feed the wire evenly.

My dad used to do it. Bit of messing around though.

I would not worry about the need for precision layer wound
stuff unless you intend to feed into a welding robot.
Random wound stuff will suit the rest of us.
Store it in a plastic bag with some absorbent salts as you get in your BP meds. It tends to get a bit rust speckly if you don't depending on where you live and the humidity level.

Guess the only thing u would have to watch out for is bird nesting, as in tangling up of the wire on the spool when it feeds out.
Yeah gotta love a machine that can take 15 Kg rolls.www.lockwoodcanvas.com.au
I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.
From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

Yeah forgot to say about birds nesting, really easy to happen when you stop the feed, i use my foot as a brake on the 15kg spool, and hold the 5kg spool tight. Also a extra set of hands help!
Yeah a lathe makes it easy, machine a solid bar to the internal diameter of your 5kg spool and step down for chuck if required, even easier if you have variable speed controller on your lathe. Wish i had acess to one

Ditto for the lathe method.
I use the jog button to control the feed.Hooroo.
