Thread: Replacing Auto Welding Helmet - With What?

I had a look a t some of the Miller offerings at a trade display a while back.

In comparison to some other brands I feel they are extremely heavy for their build/size quality.

Anything heavier than the standard hiderok is too bloody heavy these days.

Those having thick heavy bull necks may however be suited to the Miller line.
On the other hand some of the Speedlites are as light as a feather to my lightweight neck.

I have the miller digital elite and it has been a great helmet for all applications but they are on the heavy side. They are top heavy when you have the helmet in the up position and you find that you need to really tighten the head band for it to sit securily on your head. The miller performance is a great all rounder helmet that will suit you fine and very much lighter compared to the digital elite.
The speedglas superlight is a very good helmet as well and i would probally choose from the speedglas sl and miller performance. If the speedglas sl is too heavy on price aim towards the miller performance.

I have Digital Elite and would buy another. Yes heavy on the head... But I can set any shade from 5-13 which for the low amp tig work I do is a ripper - just try and weld 10 amps with a shade 9, you can't see what you are doing!

For mig work I'd have a look at the mach II from weldclass, good helmets, lightweight and long battery life.
