Default ? What type of welder

I am restoring a trailer thats as old as me.It was registered in 1974 I removed the decking and sides and have got to work preping it for paint. So far it seems that the rust is minimal and I have only found I serious rust spot. I was going to cut it out and weld in a patch. I havent welded much. I used to own a mig but sold it after it sat in my garage for 3 yrs unused.

What type of welder should I use ? mig arc Gas
Is it a job a amatuer could handle ?

    Thanks

    Andrew

I would suggest that you see someone with welding experience, seeing that it's right above the spring hanger.

I would be cutting that section out and replating it using a mig
