Received a Plane like your small one awhile back.
Gave it a wash with Metho + a good scrub. Came up beautifully.
I used Loctite 401 Super Glue + a bit of dust, but have the Vice ready, as you don't have much time with this glue, & just squeeze tightly. May have to a bit of hand sanding. You could then use some uBeaut Traditional Wax, & it will buff up very well.

Mathesom planes are about the best ever made so well worth a bit of your time. A scrub with metho or turps to get the gunk off. As for the split in the small smoother either epoxy or super glue. Use acetone to remove as much crud as you can from the crack before the glue. A heat up of the wood with a hair dryer or heat gun before you apply the glue helps it run in better. You will also have to take a small skim of the wedge sides to prevent a repeat of the crack. The wedge would have swelled at some stage causing the damage. Linseed oil is the traditional finish. I have one of those smoothers and it is a pleasure to use.

Someone put a larger plane (#7) upside down in a vice to run the woodie over the top for levelling the sole.
