    Default Antique Stanley No6 plane

Hi, I have acquired an old No6 plane that looked to have no identifying marks on it - the only identifiers I could find were on the blade which is stamped Stanley PAT APL 19.92 and on the lateral adjustment lever it is stamped horizontally STANLEY PAT 1C 2194 72488.

Can anyone tell me what I've got?

It's an American (as opposed to UK or Australian) Stanley - possibly a type 6. Have a look at this site: RexMill.com Hand Planes 101 The Resource

    Photos please.

    Cheers, Vann.

    Hi Vann,

I checked out the web-site you referred me to and I think mine may be a Type 8 - it has the foundry mark "B" in a couple of places. There is also slight damage to the tote which I will have to repair. Hope photos work as I've not done this before. Appreciate your help.

Looks like a nice old plane. I like those flat front knobs on the older stanleys. I just saw this clip on repairs to a No6 tote.

I have done a similar repair on a saw handle. Just cut off the broken end in line with the wood grain and keep the replacement bit grain in line also.
    Regards
    John
