Default Old Jacobs Keyless Chuck Question

    Hi guys,

I recently received an old industrial pedestal drill and the keyless chuck seperate with a 12.0mm drill bit stuck in it. The chuck doesn't tighten onto the tapered fitting in the drill. I am wondering if I need a new keyless chuck or if there is something I am missing. The chuck is a 1-13mm Jacobs 3/64 - 1/2in J13-JT231957058_10214311877264262_2943889825855438848_n.jpg31952991_10214311877104258_2147616173510885376_n.jpg31956454_10214311876664247_6112542480085811200_n.jpg

You need a chuck to MT Arbor, Mcjing have them although I cannot see a J13-JT2 on their list.

The drill chuck arbors can be brought from Hare & Forbes, Sydney.

Could the arbor be 2 MT x JT3?

Some pics of the spindle in the drill might help establish if your drill has an female morse taper or as some older drills had a male taper . They were actually pretty good as they had thread in the end so the chuck when fitted could be further secured with a high tensile bolt up through the chuck. Just as secure as a draw bar. I used to have an old Richardson with that sort of nose on the spindle and still regret passing it to my brother. It had a 3/4" ball bearing jacobs chuck. The chuck you have here, if nothing is broken, should release with a little persuasion after a soak in kero to soften old oil.
    All the best.
