Default A little help with some older Machines

    Hi All,

I'm not sure if this should go in this thread as i'm not sure if the machines i'm talking about are antiques or collectable, but they are reasonably old... Mods, if this belongs in another section, apologies and feel free to move.

Long story short, my old man was a carpenter by trade, and the garage at my folks old place was his workshop. He had some large machines in there that my Mum left with dads business partner when Dad passed away 8 years ago. A year or so ago his business partner passed, and we're getting in touch with the family to see what they want to do with the machines. If they don't want to keep them (no other woodworkers in their family that i know of) i might have some items to sell (splitting the money between the 2 families).

What i want to know is, what should i look for to identify the machines in question, and their value? Is it just the plate thingy with the power requirements etc, or should i look for other identifiers? From memory there isn't a brand marking (or there was and it was worn away).

From Memory (and i'm probably forgetting a few things) there was:
    - A very decent sized 3 phase table saw (i'm pretty sure it has a planer on it as well)
    - A bench mounted Radial Arm saw
    - A couple of other hand power tools
    - A drill press (i might keep this for myself).
    - Old twin bag dust extractor (dunno if we tossed this or if it's still there...)

I'd be able to test the single phase machinery to see if they work, but the Table saw will be a problem as I don't think there's a 3 phase outlet where it is stored.

My Dad had all these in the shed for as far back as i can remember, I'm 32, so i'd say they'd have to be at least 25-30 years old... like i said, maybe not antique yet but older than me i'd say.

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Dibs

The plate thingy is the best place to start, but any writing might give some clues; badges, labels, text in the castings themselves.

If you can put some pictures up, I'm pretty sure the'll be someone on the forum who'll recognise it.

Thanks for the advice. I still need to go to arrange a time to go to their place to look at them and work out if we want to sell etc, but wanted to know what to look for before I went so I know what to look for.

As soon as I can arrange it, I'll go and take some photos and post them on here.

I wish i could keep them, but Dad's shed was about 72m2 and i'm running on a bout 15m2...

Pics would help a lot.. try and get all the angles... even if the plates are missing someone might be able to help with an ID.. plenty of knowledgeable people on here.
