Default Other than Market Place & Gumtree Where Does One Sell Old Tools

Came across a real treasure trove of old tools, and most of it is well beyond average, while trying to sell mine and I don't think market place and gumtree, or ebay are really any good for the volume of tools this individual has. And I've volunteered to help shift it. Is there other sites where the real tool nuts congregate and buy tools in Australia. E.g. I met an Aussie that has 13, yes 13, Stanley #1s, and who knows how many #2s. Where do these seriously OCD people go to acquire this sort of stuff. Like I was saying market place and the likes isn't going to cut it.

And some would be asking why not here? The exposure needs to be much further, the volume he has is ridiculous, and I find it difficult to sell here because the last time I sold stuff it did my head in as there was three methods of communication and people were using at least two each time they wanted something...

    Suggestions?

Auction houses? Although they will take their cut.

I personally doubt if you can sell that quantity of premium stuff in Oz.

Both the US and UK have auction houses that specialise in top end tools and the subscriber lists to attract the punters with the wherewithal.

You could possibly offload one #1 at each the big tool sales here in Oz but you’d have to be there in person.

I would unhesitatingly recommend you contact Hans Brunner who attended my tool sales in Sydney for many years before starting his online tool auctions here in Oz. I’ve been involved in old tool sales since 1985 and founded the Sydney collectors club.

Hans is completely honest and trustworthy and although now supposedly retired in country southern Queensland would still have his finger on the pulse of how to embark on this endeavour.

The other dude up the Sunshine Coast I personally have never had dealings with. So no comment but Hans is the real deal.

    Default tool selling

    Hi spin doc,

Can I suggest that you look up your local tool club,

just about each state has one.

I belong to the South Australian Historical Tool Association Inc.

and we hold regular in house tool auctions, we also accept

outside consignment tools and only charge a very modest fee

in comparison to regular auction houses.

    Graham.

Out of curiosity, what would high quality and "user" Stanley #1 & #2's be expected go for on the collector's market.

2’s usually go for around $400 for a user in reasonable condition and up to $650 for an as-new boxed item; 1’s go for between $1000-$1400.

I’d love one of each but they are out of my price range for something that will rarely (if ever) actually touch wood.

Abbey Auctions recently had an online tool auction. Over 1000 items across 2 days (1 month apart) . It wasn’t too bad. Most items brought good prices for the sellers. No 1s sold for 1600 to 2200 plus buyers premium of 25%.

I'll send the info on to the owner and let him go from there. I doubt he'll go for it. He seems to want it all gone asap.
