No wonder Luke is so free with his 2c worth. At the current rate of exchange it is only 1.5c in his money. Oh! Half a tick. Did I just fall into Matt's dastardly digression trap?

These are shots of the sole of a Stanley No. 51. The free edge of the sole is to the bottom of each picture. Some curvature, something like 0.005 or so if I'm reading this thing correctly, is evident in that area. A bit harder to see in the pic's. BTW, I think that this thing has a polarizer in the upper lens fitting. Does anybody know?

    Wow,
Ok Rob ,this is freaky, and this is not a deliberate attempt to run my own thread of course.
You work as a handy man sometimes correct,I think!
I work full time has a handy man fact.
You were just examining a Stanley 51 spoke shave sole.
I yep ,was just finishing restoring a Stanley 51 spoke shave.
Including given its bottom a clean up.

If you remember back to my first thread ,I said I was getting my S..... together and cleaning up my tools.
Yet, you and I have just picked up the same tool type miles apart and not spoken of it wow.
    7 degrees of separation .
(Just going to have a word with my mother lol)

    Cheers Matt,

Same number different tool Matt, mine is the No. 51 plane. Close enough though for us being on different sides of the planet. Yes, I do the handy-man hustle too, though now I'm busy with other work and can't do much outside. I need to get out a straight edge to see if I can pick up the variation.

    Here's my basic handyman kit.

The black case with orange handle is full of measuring tools and wall scanners.

I've got one of the Woodpeckers straight edges, and a light. If there's enough room I may try a feeler to see if I can get a number, if not maybe a picture.

You are a lot more fussy than me I use 80 and 120 grit and that is where I stop. One hint put a curtain cleaning brush on an old vacuum and you will be amazed how well the sand paper lasts if every couple of minutes you vac up all the swarf. All the best.
