Default Stanley No. 289 - you don't see these too often

By fluke I picked up a rare Stanley yesterday.... a Stanley No. 289 filletster rebate & dado plane.

According to Blood & Gore website and my catalogs this skewed iron filletster was only made from 1911 to 1948 and quite difficult to find complete.
Mine is thankfully complete and very early with its patent numbers, decent length iron (c. 1909-12), original fence and depth stop and both spurs.

Found in a typical garage clear out advertised on a web classifieds. Now I didn't pay mere pennies (the bloke wasn't a fool) but did okay with a very fair offer on a few other planes bundled together

    After a quick wipedown. She's a beauty!

    Anyone here use a 289?

    Cheers,
    Vaughan

    Nice find.
I have been on the lookout for one at a reasonable price as the skew blade would be an improvement on the 78, good as it is. I do have a wooden skew filletster but with all the tap tapping to set the wedged wooden fence it takes a while to get going. Does a good job but most times I reach for the 78 for ease of setup. Hopefully the stars will align on a 289 for me one day
Lucky b#&&er he mutters under his breath.

My first lucky tool find for sure.
I'm usually on the worse side of retail or have to spend big bucks on missing parts!
