Henry,
It all depends if you are buying or selling!
There is also a range of KK planes made by another company, Ohio I think.
They lacked the fit & finish of the Stanley planes.
A quick way to tell is the odd shape of the handle, and they had a front screw in handle on all the sizes down to the #2 or #02 as they called it.

It's basically the same as badge engineering cars or the generic machinery that comes out of various parts of Asia. You can stick whatever name you want on it, but at the end of the day it's still the same thing.
