Default Clock kits... for a first timer

    Hiya gurus,

I'm looking at building/assembling a wooden clock kit. I have OK mechanical skills and hand tools but don't have any of the major tools to produce my own wooden clock, eg planers, CNC etc.

Are there any wooden clock kits available? What I would really like is a hanging clock with exposed (ie. so you can see it) movement and a wooden face, nothing too fancy.

It's for home and also might be to prove to my GF that I can build things ON TIME .

Do any of you knowledgeable fellas (and girls) have any links to websites/shops that have kits?

    Thanks,
    Ben

A quick Google on "wooden clock kits" came up with a few pages of information.

The first one was Wooden-Gear-Clocks.com - Makers of Wooden Gear Clock Kits and Plans

    seems quite reasonable.

Or you could start with the Sponsor of the Clock forum, Janine from Let's Make Time Clock Co.

Look at the box above the Google ads, just above your original post.

Thanks for that. I've perused and they don't have wooden kits and the mechanical movements are $$$

Hi, back here in India we do not have readily available DIY kits... I have the skill set of a beginner level woodworker and I use only basic handtools for my work. I am not sure if this helps you with what you are looking for, but here's what I did to build my simple wooden wall clock !

    1. The clock mechanism was available for less than 2 USD
    2. I used a 4 mm wooden plank (One side teak - OST sheet) for my clock face
    3. Since the clock face was only 4 mm, I used 1cm by 1cm wooden sticks on all four corners to support the sheet
    4. User wooden buttons that were available at the local crafts store for the numbers
    5. The clock face was sanded and varnished. It's natural look was retained.
    6. The clock mechanism was fixed in the center of the OST sheer and secured it using a duct tape.

No clock kits and yet a simple wooden clock. You can check it out at Wooden Wall Clock | Woodooz

Do let me know if it helped.

    Cheers.
