    Default Burl clock

I've had a slab of burl sitting around for 15+ years, and my wife has been encouraging me for while to turn it into a clock as a present for my father-in-law. I wanted to more 'woodwork' than drill a hole in a nice piece of wood, so I came up with this design, and I'm pretty happy with the result.

I don't know what wood the burl is - something really hard, so probably a gum. The segments of the clock face are camphor, with strips of mahogany between. The burl is finished in Poly, and the camphor is finished in Danish oil. I hope this clock never falls off the mantelpiece, because it weighs a ton!

Very nice Surfdabbler! It is pretty obvious that that bit of burl just HAD to be a mantel clock! You have fulfilled it's destiny well

Carrol's Woodcraft supplies has these clock movements. I bought it at the wood show last year, but they do mail order.
