This is my first clock
I have been working in wood for about a year now and this is my first clock. I used a high speed graver and some small hand files. It took me about 40+ hours to complete this. The weave took the most time. Please look over the pictures and be honest, be as brutal as you want because how will I learn.

I do need better glasses. I will set up a new appointment. Some days I didn't even want to look at this project. Thanks for your reply.

I think Durham's reply was more along the line of the intricate work in the design being hard on your eyes rather than your eyesight being poor. Lovely work

Your patience is outstripped by your skill. An amazing clock face, a real credit to you.

A very interesting clock. I can understand what you mean by some days you did not want to even look at this project.
What finish have you applied to the finished piece?

They say patience is a virtue ... and you certainly have plenty of that. I have been in the "woodworking" game for nigh on 40 years - and I am pretty sure I would not have the same patience as what you have diligently created here.... Congratulations on a great piece of work.

thank you. I hope to be doing this for years to come. I have been in printing and graphic design for 30 years now, I still love what i do but I want to grow more and I hope wood engraving will be with me. I am also trying to engrave on metal, I have done few small plates.

the finish I used was minx natural 209 thats the lighter finish. The darker finish was dark walnut.

Wow, it looks fantastic!
I do have a little constructive feedback though... i think next time you should incorporate the numbers into the carving, so that they stand proud (like the leaves/feathers), apart from that i love it! 👍

I thought about that. When I started this project it was just practice but it turned into a project. Right now the numbers are 1/16 to 1/8 beep with dark walnut stain down inside the numbers. It looks like they are burned into the wood, there is nothing burned into this clock. If I do another clock like this I am going to make the weave larger and I will make the numbers stand out like the feathers. I like the feedback thank you for that.
