I had a quick look and I know I am going to have to come back to it when I have more time.
I am drawn towards the complexity of it. I have a suspicion that to the maker it was not that complex but a series of logical solutions. Personally I don't think I could get an understanding of all of it.

It would make a wonderful beginners project, just what you need to build your confidence up, before you tackle anything too complicated.
