Looking for advice
Hi all, newbie to clock making here and I was wondering if anybody has any advice on simple quartz movements.
I'm looking to sell some simple clock pieces at a few markets and ive been looking at movement prices.
ebay has movements from $2 to $10 but I'm unsure of quality.
A local woodwork store has them for $11 and they seem alright.
anyone know a good website or any pointers appreciated.~

Hi Scrapster.
I can recommend Let's Make Time Clock Company - Takane Quartz movements, clock parts, Pendulum, High Torque and moving | Let's Make Time they are one of the sponsors here.
The movements I get from them are high quality U.S made and should be good for 10 years, there are also a wide selection of hands available.
Their service is excellent IMHO.
Avoid the cheapo ebay ones they are usually pretty awful.

Thanks Mark for the suggestion, I checked them out and they look promising however at the moment I'm trying to put min dollars into clock movements until I figure what sells and how much for.
I would definitely look into them in the future if I can sell some clocks for a pricier amount.
Thanks again.

I sell my clocks in the Boranup Gallery,in .W.A,they sell in the $300-800 range so I use the better quality movements.
I think a good quality movement is a definite positive selling point for the customer too.

The gallery would be the way to go but at the moment I'm looking at selling on a small scale at the local markets for around the $15 to $35 range,
so the cheaper clock movement for cheaper clocks I think is the way to go, I have to make some profit.
More pricey clocks I would definitely put a better quality movement in, you get what you pay for sorta thing.
If you could post a pic of one of your clocks that would be awesome!
Thanks again

I have tried some of the $1 - $2 eBay movements with varying results. Some will last for a couple of years and some will only last for a couple of weeks. Bit of a lucky dip in my opinion.
I have been told that they are exactly the same as you will get in a shop bought clock, but I have had a clock from Big W that only lasted a couple of weeks too! Maybe they are right!
I have only heard good reports about Takane.
Cheers

Have purchased movements from Lets Make Time and had issues, had to send movements back at my cost which makes them expensive. Made phone call about other problems and was told they would look into it and ring back, that was in August.
Still waiting. Just my personal experience

This is an assortment of some of the clocks I have made, they all incorporate the Takane movements.
Some are the basic movements and some are the high-torque ones.

Another supplier you might try is Clock Movements. Ceramicraft, they also allow you to select from a range of Clock Hands depending on the style you are after. They really cater to the wholesale customer as they also offer volume discounts. Hope that helps!
