The boat is now at the 26th annual Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival. Lots of positive comments. It's unlike anything anyone has ever seen before. Some were commenting on the art deco styling, other on the wings and the jet fighter look. There were questions about how I got the plywood the bend in so many directions, a couple of people were taking pictures of it, saying it looked more like modern art than a sailboat. Plus the backdrop is pretty special. It's a nice place where they are holding the show.

If they only knew just how relaxed the plywood is ... it's thinking about bending it one way at one time only. but with some playing you can get some very interesting shapes.
It seems like a good decision to go with the wood ... sorry for putting you through ... VARNISHING Rick!

Still frigging with the rigging, but everyone should get the idea of what it looks like now.
Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival starts tomorrow, so off we go. I'll finish it up tonight and while at the show.
Rick.

Fixing a fender under each wing would make her easy to climb back in from the water I reckon.
Seems odd to see shrouds on a Storer boat.
Including a baby stay even! Is it set up to be adjustable to flatten the main in stronger winds?

I think it will float high Brian, but maybe a couple of short rope handles will suffice? It should pull up OK without having to stand on the centreboard. I think the technique for climbing back into the boat will be to get in from just aft of the wing. I have a feeling that the grab rail has been terminated a tad too soon, but that will be discovered pretty quickly and its an easy fix to make them a bit longer. A routed groove under the rail would help facilitate some grip, like the Laser's plastic rails.
Technique for getting back aboard will be something like this:
- Grab rail with front hand
- Pull boat to weather to lower the gunwale
- Haul belly up to gunwale
- Throw aft leg over the gunwale
- Grab mainsheet and haul in to apply pressure
- As the gunwale rises, tip yourself in!
By the way, does it have a bailer? I don't think it will take on much water though, more to empty the dregs.

If I am correct, the show is over (I believe it took place September 6-8).
How was the boat received by the crowd?
And the main question: has she been launched and sailed yet?

Hi Joost
Are you on Facebook? Most of the Storer Boats news seems to be there now, so it's worthwhile following there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/GoatIslandSkiff/
I have been slow on the uptake too, but it's really worthwhile to help keep abreast of developments.
However to answer your question, the Show was a huge success. Small Craft Advisor mag said this: Easily one of the coolest new boats at the Wooden Boat Festival. On 38 hours to build boat and spars.-Eds

This Storer hi performance skiff looks great.
BUT what is the status of the 12 ft " Son of Goat" which was an alternate to the hi-perf 12'
Is there still a 'project' to get the more genuine "Son of Goat" twelve onto paper and into ply for we oldies too far gone with Arthur-itis, synthetic hips, heart pacemakers and other medical marvels of the 21st century ?
Is there a Thread still active on this craft ?
Cheers, Martin B

Fly-by footage
While browsing one of the Port Townsend threads on WBF, there was a link to aerial video. Lovely, for sure, but then at 2:36 seconds the 12er comes into view. I didn't go back to see if she actually shows up elsewhere, but she jumped off the screen at 2:36:

Nice :). Thanks for the discovery :))). The 12-footer appears quite early on, circa 0:28-0:30 secs, and appears at other points too, as well as 2:36. Readily distinguishable by that tall square-topped white sail - of course, said he, stating the blindingly obvious (as usual) ;).
