    Thankyou for that Calanish.

So in effect there is a 44sq ft class and a 50sq ft class.

Good to know. This canoe will not fit the rules you use, but I don't want it too far away either as the UK canoe rule seems to have produced nice sensible boats.

Well some people have both rigs on the same boat. And when racing it is a combined fleet and handicaps are used if people are being serious.

Is it likely to be close enough to fit in the rule set with some tweaking ?

FWIW Solway Dory who make most / all of the sails have moved to Bermudan rigs for ease of reefing, other than the 25sq' expedition sale. They will make the others as lugs but recommend bermudan and are only doing development there. This is for both their boats and conversion rigs.

    Hi Fearghas,

Talking about canoes and the new canoe ... it won't fit within either rule.

Both rules require a leeboard and I think also require a minimum length around 16ft. And I think the USA rule has something about symmetry.

So this 15footer with a centreboard case will not match the rule.

It came from a different direction. However, the power requirement will be similar.

Also, in general (apart from sanctioned events) sailing people are usually very interested in other boats, so I doubt there would be many objections if one of these turned up to a low key event.

It also means the sails already available in the USA and UK will work with the boat. I've actually found 4 commercially sails that will work with the boat and make it work. Even an optimist sail will work.

    Cheers
