Brian yes I know about those plans but i think 8-8 1/2' oars might fit the MSD better

Clint

Those Oars are for the Goat. I need to mod them for the Rowboat.

Mik, We plan to do the rowboat with a group of kids for a customer starting in Feb. Any chance you'll have the MSD oars for then?

A year later, my shoulders are almost good enough to start work again, and once again the temperature and the humidity are exactly wrong for playing with epoxy, and well building boats is a bit uncomfortable at times in summer...
So maybe I should get back into it eh?

Peter, I hope you can start again. We will be building an MSD with high schoolers from Bath, Maine starting in Feb. Time looks short with them so I am not sure how much they will be logging in here, so I may do that part. I could report back to them and we can compare notes. I am cutting patterns for the parts and having them route out bulkheads while the the panels are laid out. I only have them for about 48 hours total so it will be quite structured to get the boat done!
Cheers,
Clint

I have found the best way to get a clean edge when cutting ply with a jig saw is to mark the line with a stanley knife

Howdy,
I have moved things around a bit.
The Compass Project Youth project building the MSD rowboat is here
And now
Daddles building a Storer Rowboat (same plan as above) has started in Adelaide here

There is also one in Brisbane,

I have taken some pics of the Duckflat Rowboat.
The owner is going for traditional seats so it is being built over temporary moulds. It has a solid timber transom - I am hoping they don't add too much weight to it!
It is from the computer cut kit too.

By the way, the first pic was dry assembled, the end of the day shot has the whole thing glued up. Darren planed down the chinelogs while there was wet glue on the stem and transom. This might be quite difficult if all the bulkheads were being glued at the same time!

So THAT's how to do it eh?
Thought I'd pop back in just so everyone knows I'm not dead!
I figured while I can't build stuff I'll go and see stuff instead, so the bits of the boat are carefully packaged and sitting in the garage for when I get back!
Maybe over Christmas....
Maybe...
In the meantime it is possible to keep up with my wherabouts at http://www.bitingmidge.com though.
Top effort to all who have been building, I'm madly trying to catch up with all the posts!
Cheers,
P

I don't get the solid transom for a boat like this or the Goat. I do think a thin veneer of Sapele glued to the outside would be something. That is a heavy transom. Or you could get the Joubert Sapele veneered over Okoume plywood (not BS 1088 but fine under epoxy). Food for thought for others seeing this...there are more than one way to skin a cat!
I wonder if he sprung the sheer. Did they figure out the stem bevels in advance?
