Default GIS Centerboard/Center Case sizing question

So, when I put my daggerboard into the case, there is nearly an inch of fore/art play between the edges of the board and the walls/spacers of the case. It can slide or tilt fore and aft some. Is this normal? OK? Should I shim out the back edge of the case slot with something to reduce the play?
    Thanks,

That's the way it's supposed to be, so no worries.

Normal? Yes. Ok? Debatable. Some skippers take advantage of the space to change the position of the daggerboard, altering the helm balance. Awesome, but how does one prevent the Goat from making the changes on it's own? Some Goats have enough play in the slot to allow the daggerboard to float up on its own. How does one limit or control the depth of board AND the fore-aft rotation?

I chose to alter the framing to greatly reduce the "extra" space and lined the slot with outdoor carpet to provide friction. I am not the norm.

My humble little OZ has a similar feature with a fore/aft spacing gap. I use a PVC pipe that is slit lengthwise. That serves to both solve the gap concern as well as some cushion when (not if) I hit things. It is also moveable so I can work on any helm balance at the DB if I need to.
