I was able to get the dry box and the front deck glued in:





I also put a piece of 1/2" CPVC through the front and rear of the boat so that I could put a rope handle through the boat without having to worry about it leaking (especially in the dry box):

The details for each boat are often the interesting thing. Was there enough ply in the three sheets to put in those tanks?

Were they about the maximum size you could get within the required plywood?

Yes, there was just enough ply left over to put a tank at one end of the boat. The limiting factor was the width. The boat got too wide for the strip that is left over to reach across the gunwales. I'll get some measurements for you, so that you can get an idea of the size of the tank.

I have a question. When I am "painting" the graphite coating on the bottom of the boat, I am putting a strip of painters tape along the side so that I can have a nice clean line. The problem is that when I remove the tape, some of the black graphite coating has leaked under the tape. The first time I did it I had the boat upside down and I know gravity allowed it to run under the tape, but this last time I tried it with the boat on its side so that gravity would pull it towards the bottom of the boat, but it still managed to get under the tape somehow. Any suggestions on getting a nice clean line?

You can try the green 'frog tape' that the painters use. This seems to bleed less than the other masking tapes. I have used it with success. Make sure you 'burnish' the edge with your thumbnail to really seal the edge.
Also, if the top coat of paint you are taping to has a lot of dust particles stuck in the paint, sometimes this prevents getting a good bond with the masking tape, allowing small voids that the secondary colour can bleed under the tape.

The green one or the blue one are the best masking tapes.

I don't believe most of what is said about graphite/epoxy as a coating - but it is no harm either.

Good tape and a smooth surface for it to adhere to. If your finish on the sides isn't smooth you'll get a ragged edge even with the best of tapes.

Thanks for the information. I tried it again, and this time I ran my fingernail down the side of it to make sure it made good contact. Then after I painted on the coating I took the tape up so that it wouldn't have time to soak into the tape. This seemed to work much better. Now I can do the same to the other side. Thanks for the suggestions.

I took some measurements of the tank to give an idea of its size. It is about 22 inches long / deep to the stem and about 15 inches wide between the gunwales. The deck plate is 8" quarter turn that I got from Duckworks.
