| |  GIS - She finallly hit the water!!! Netherlands
Today we had an excellent first sail with the GIS. First a proper christening with close friends and family whilst enjoying some bubbles, followed by a short sail to see what she is all about.  We were truly amazed with the speed she took off, as there was only about 6 knots of wind or so. She also appears to be extremely balanced, hardly any need to touch the helm unless changing course.  She is named GISwerk. A little play upon the words: “Giswerk” means “guesswork” in Dutch and the capital letters GIS nicely refer to Goat Island Skiff. Michael, once again: thank you for this very nice design. I am very sure I will enjoy it tremendously the coming years. Without Mr. Hyndman’s site I wouldn’t have come across this design, so also my thanks to him.  On the technical side: this boat is very standard with only very minor modifications / additions: some light and strategic reinforcement of seating areas, cleats in the bow area are planed with a curve to ensure a 90 degree angle with the ply deck for the full length of the cleats rather than to rely on epoxy to fill the gaps, brass strips on the bottom runners for protection.  Some pictures attached of the fine craft. The “captain” hats are courtesy of our friends.

Hmm, I tried to attach 5 pictures, and am uncertain what went wrong here. I am quite sure that I inserted the proper links…  Is some one able to shed any light on this? Thank you BobWes. It took months until this name dawned upon us. I still need to transfer the name to the transom however. Will try to get that done this week. |

right click on picture in Flicr.
Click on "copy image URL"
Click on "insert image picture"
Right click and select paste
The go to front of address and check that "http:/" is not there twice. It always seems to be for me, so I delete the first http:/
Hope this helps and works for you. Others may know how to do it properly, this way gets me by.

You would think by now I would think ...
"yeah, yeah, yeah ... another Goat Island Skiff ... of course it will work fine ... etc"
But every time I read about a launching ... I worry when I see the title. How did the boat work? ... did it behave well?
So I always breathe a big sigh of relief and then can't help smiling when I hear the report.

Wonderful news, Joost. You are obviously much more adventurous than I.
Even though I live on Lat 32N I'm waiting for a little warmer water before I put mine in for sailing trials.
Can't wait to see the pics. |

The problem may have been that there was no backlink to Flickr. I have found that they block the links to the pics sometimes if there is no backlink ... so I added one at the bottom of the Joost's post.
Boat is lovely!
