    GIS update.

Minus six screws the hull is finished. It isn't the best paint job in the world, some areas are better than others, but it mostly looks fine from a distance and will hopefully be serviceable.

The plan is to launch the boat in the next couple of weeks (after the paint has cured) and use it as a row boat while I finish of the mast, centerboard, boom, yard etc etc. I have some things to finish up on the dock in the mean time, for storing the boat and for getting it in and out of the water.

All in all a big milestone after 3 years of "part time" work. I'm really looking forward to getting out on the water in it, but hope I can get a sail on it in the near future. Some pics below, full album here.

Since this lovely craft is ready for the water, she needs to be on the GIS World Map! Send me info (location, boat name, your real name) and I will put her there.

Silly me. She is already on the map, just without the name. Properly named now. I recorded the launch year as 2015, so get her in the water already! )

Does anyone know off-hand what inboard (distance from handle end of the oar to the bearing face of the collar) they are using on their 9ft goat oars? Hand over-lap or not?

Using page 6 of this document (http://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us...Oar_Manual.pdf) I get an inboard of 81cm (half 1,480mm to 70mm).

    Cheers

    Matt

Well it finally happened - on 11th January we launched my Goat Island Skiff, now named Dancing Cloud.

It wasn't possible to carry the boat directly down to the private dock on our property, so we carried it along a trail down to a nearby beach. It took about an hour and a good collection of people to carry it down the tight and at times steep path. Once there we had a small ceremony and I rowed it back to our private dock where it will now live.

It was a really nice day, great weather and people, and we managed to limit the damage to the boat during transport to just a handful of dings and scratches. Below is a short video of the day. We've been out for a row a couple of times now and it rows OK, but I'm looking forward to sailing her.

There is also a second video showing how the boat lift and boat cover operate where the boat lives.

Man that carry to the water looked way longer and more awkward than I thought it would be.

But finally, you're in the water. About time, LOL. She looks awsome, congrats and well done
Thanks for the vids, loved seeing the lift in action too. It's giving me ideas.

    Great stuff!
