Chris and I are very much hoping to assemble RAID41 starting next week, over a period of one week. It would be nice for others to see the build as this youtube video shows a PDR build in two minutes total.


Anyone know how best to create such a time lapsed record?

I think that you'll find the time lapse "footage is a function of your video camera, if it has this facility. It can be done in editing software but you would need the original real time footage to reduce down from (This file would likely be (extremely) massive & therefore very cumbersome... Transfer rates would kill you.)

no. The more I think about it, it has to be done from the camera, or video capture software at the very least.

Be sure to post how you get on with this project though... V Interesting.

Your still (non-video) camera may also have this capability. Canon PowerShot A300 does, and I've accidentally recorded a "movie" or two in real time, because of the sliding switch in the wrong position. IIRC, the software includes a program to run on a laptop or other computer, which then drives the camera shots. You'll need some video editing software to add a sound track, and other special effects.

Just spotted this Brian. This is not one of your better ideas - do you really think anybody wants to see two elderly gentlemen, one so portly he doesn't fold in the middle any more and the other so racked by sciatica he can't fold, besporting themselves in the snowfield outside putting Trim together? For rest assured, my friend, there is no room in the shed for a permanent set up camera. Anyway, my guess is that most of the shots would either be us scratching our heads, watching poxy in extreme slow cure mode or drinking yet another coffee reinforced with the national spirit. I suppose the vision of us slowly capsizing under the influence of that spirit might be mildly entertaining .

That said, very nice when done by lithe youngsters, and we could really do with some of that weather. Come to think of it a few lithe 'apprentices' to follow our directions would probably help! I am working up a new decorative scheme for Trim to reflect her build conditions - revolves around a sort of iceberg green with icicles hanging from the yard.

Chris, surely you got my note about two young lady apprentices I am bringing with me next week. Too late have cancelled them now!

Now we will have to miss out the human element - can say twenty pictures have 6 seconds each, I guess so, its just a slide show with 6 second delays as each picture morphs into the next!

No way I would want to be in a picture. Have just been in the local rag with a crew pic of Red Eye with her "overall best boat in the series trophy" and all copies have had to be destroyed.

strangely for a place so far North, we don't, which is why I grabbed the snap, I tend not to snap the commonplace until it is too late. The Westerlies usually moderate our climate but we have had a good few weeks of Easterlies and clear skies which means cold, but still nowhere near as cold as some. Lowest I have had the shed overnight recently is -2.5 deg C - probably not healthy for my waterstones, haven't dared look at them too closely. Most of the time there is nowhere else I would rather live - unless I am trying to build a boat in the winter. Mad or what.

Well if it's his camera that is going to get covered in sawdust that's fine with me.
Just hope he can remember how to work it after a few drams.
