Default MIK's shoestring tour of the USA.

OK, a Chautauqua is when a guy comes into town and sets up a show so he (or she) can both entertain people by talking loud and putting on a show and get money from them for a probably worthless patent medicine.

The PDRacer community and Duckworks have grouped together to collect small amounts of money to bring me to the USA to go to various "messabouts" (messing around in boat weekends) as well as the Intergalactic Championships of the PDRacers in Georgia in October.

They will host me at different houses and organise lifts between different places as much as possible - a real shoestring tour.

My aim it to pay back people's generosity by doing anything that they want me to (within reason!!!). So talks, discussions, Q and A, boat setup clinics, sailing lessons, boatbuilding workshops. All is fair game!

My itinerary is looking something like this.

At Lake Allatoona near Atlanta you'll be about 300 miles from the coast--and me. Maybe I can plan to bring Cosmos Mariner up there.

Hmmmmm....

Maine in mid October definitely is a great time to be on the water! I don't think my GIS will be done, but we have Dana up here and an MSD rowboat and a Goat and another rowboat under construction. That'd be fun. I would love to say I could have my GIS yawl done.

It would be SUPER GOOD to get a Goat there! A goat makes any lake a prettier place.

And I think a lot of the PDRacer people would be really interested to see it.

Any chance of Clint getting his rowboat into the mix as well?

Too far North for him to get down to Texas I think. Maybe I can go north. A little bit of boating happens around New York and Maine, I believe

Fantastic news Mik those merican boaties sure are nice people. The trip will be a great experience a bloke couldn't ask for more travelling around hanging out with boats and boating types.

I am a little concerned however I'm not sure they can handle a visit from a Wild Dingo and a Boatmik in the same year.

Sounds like a great trip MIK. Pity you won't be making a stop in the Bay Area. Be sure to take a bunch of pics, and post 'em up here when you get home.

Mik,

We're glad to hear you're heading this way! We're in Portsmouth, NH, on the tiny New Hampshire coast right on the Maine border. And the GIS we started recently ought to be sailing by then! We'll post pictures soon. If you need a place to say in New England, you're welcome to stay with us!

Cheers,
Will and Frank Clarkson

Hi Will and Frank,

Dana's boat is also in Maine and Clinton Chase who built the first birdsmouth masts, for Dana's Goat, is up there too.

I am planning it all .. so will see how it all fits in. Really want to get up to the NE.

Mik:

I was delighted to hear from Clint that you may make it to New England in the Fall. I know that Clint made you an offer of a place to stay and -- without trying to steal his thunder -- I'd like to make the same offer. In any event, I do hope you can make it to Maine or New Hampshire. Late Fall could well be be the best time of year.

Howdy Dana,

I have booked my departure from the USA to be from Boston on the 4th of October. So it looks to me like I have to make it!

I am working with Clint to organise a talk at his workshop.

So looks like I am locked in!
