Narrow PD Goose as a sailing canoe.
With all the talk of adding a rig to the Quick Canoe could you make a PD Goose narrower to make it easier to cartop? With a 1200mm wide ply you could get one side and the bottom out, another sheet width would give you the other three sides to make the side tanks. End up with a beam of 800mm/ 32 in' similar to the Quick Canoe and Beth sailing canoe. I imagine the rig would need to be smaller due to the lower stability. Would it work as a sailing canoe? Sorry my first post is so full of questions, just thinking very aloud!

If you anyway do not care about stability that much, why not an Quick Canoe Electric (Quick Canoe Electric – a simple, cheap electric powered boat. Square back Electric Canoe | Michael Storer Wooden Boat Plans). From the site you can read that it is having the dimension of 15ft 8″ (4.6m) x 39″ (1.03m).
Maybe the original Quick Canoe could also be converted to a good sailing canoe. MIK maybe can tell which one of QC and QCE would be better as a sailing canoe (with centerboard and mast added).

I have problems storing a canoe that long and think the shorter length would be more manageable cartopping. Also what are you losing by cutting 2 ft off each end of one of the canoes you mention; a little buoyancy, probably not much considering the straight sides of the Goose. The shorter waterline may mean a bit slower speed, I can live with that I'm not looking to race..

Have a look at my comments here - https://www.woodworkforums.com/f169/s...t-dory-159976/
Then see if it fits within your sailing style or would be so much fun it is worth trying anyhow. You might need a touch more rocker.
