I still have some troubles understanding what is going on with your boat. Was it the centreboard case that was too long all the time, or was the bulkhead too far forward and the centreboard case the right length? If the bulkhead was too far forward and you have already cut it out, why don't you glue the new one in the correct position and fix a standard size centreboard case? A bulkhead too far forward and the centreboard case cut short to get the board in the right position must mean that the centreboard will come up through the thwart? That will be a bit uncomfortable while rowing don't you think?

I'm pretty sure it was this based on the photo. You can see how close the bulkhead was to the butt straps.

I'm pretty sure I don't understand what happened either.

If BH-3 was installed too far forward, how did that affect the hull shape, particularly the bottom? And, if the installed BH was removed, will it fit or will a new BH be required?

    Hi All,

It is really wonderful to see everyone helping with the problem here. So much help from all over the globe.

Last night scooterpontus gave me a yell so I dropped by and sent a PM asking for details.

It sounds already resolved. The big clue for the fix was the measurement of existing boats.

On another topic, I am still trying to work out what to do about monitoring the forum. It is so darn seductive and can be a big time suck. At the same time it is valuable for my work and also a way to keep in contact with many of you. I've been busy last year with the new sailmaking venture and ... some other things ... so I'm still working it out.

But thank you all so much for helping out Northstar.

Bulkhead was installed too far forward. Thanks to MIK building in some wiggle room on the bottom sheets there was room to make things work out. I have saved the #3 bulkhead panel and made new framing. It is not all that easy as the new framing has to fit in place. With the shortened centercase, #3 stays pretty much in place. 150 mm off on the center of the seat is nothing like the problem of the centercase being 150 mm out of position. I will try to post pics of the new centercase design today.

This whole thing makes me look dumber than a box of rocks but thanks to a globe full of wonderful friends it is going to work out. Sail Ho.

If I can get them to load, here are pictures of before and after on #3 bulkhead. Notice how the position changes in relation to the butt straps. This is the internal framing of the shortened centercase.

Plus, you can always claim to have a faster hull and it will be our challenge to get up north and prove otherwise!

    Build ho!

Much progress since the last post. I should glue down the top to the fore and aft air tanks today. I am also doing the seam as I go, using up my overage on epoxy by adding wood power and binder. That stuff turns into rock! I'm hoping to put the new short centercase in this week and then the rails. After that, it is turn it up and do the bottom. Hoping to finish up around the middle of this month. Pics to follow.
