    Default Ozracer RV Material List

    Hello all

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I can't seem to get the search function to work for me? (Just hangs after I hit search)

I was hoping someone could point me to a material list for the RV so I can make some basic cost calculations.

I grew up around boats and dad got us sailing Optimists when we were young. I'd now like to do the same for my own son however when I started looking at secondhand boat prices the dream hit a roadbump! I came across a mould for a small tender and bought it thinking it was the best way forward - until a friend pointed me to the Ozracers.
Now I am at a cross roads! I have started pricing the glass costs to make the tender but I wonder if the RV will be cheaper and faster and more father and son friendly to build.

Is there a list somewhere or do I need to buy the plans for that?

    Cheers
    David

Not sure if there is a list, but for budget purposes, you will need four sheets of 6mm ply, or 2 sheets of 6mm and two of 4mm, plus 4 litres of epoxy with hardener, 6 meters of fibreglass tape, and the equivalent of three eight foot 2x4's for the hull. The foils are strips of timber about 22mm thick and enough to make a blank about 300mm wide and 2 meters long.
The spars can come out of two 14' 2x8's and then you need either a fairly large tarp for the sail material, or order a sail from Really Simple Sails.

    Thank you PDR311!

I really appreciate you taking the time.
Your reply is exactly what I was after. Just a rough guide on the main expenses so that I can compare to the fibreglass hull option.

I have spent the last few evenings reading about the PDR world and I see that there are a few here in NZ already.

Is the epoxy for coating the ply as well as taping the seams?

Right - I have some pricing to do!

    Cheers
    David
