Default Quick Canoe build - she floats!

    Hi all,

I just thought I'd put up some photos of my Quick Canoe I just built. Built from high quality Bunnings marine ply, pine keel, meranti gunwales and some exterior paint I had in the shed for the hull. Inside is varnished. It took me about 3 weeks to put together (mainly waiting for epoxy to cure after accidentally buying slow hardner). And what fun I had building it, I'm very happy with it and learnt a lot (like gaffer tape is horrible stuff).

I think I have the boat building bug now! I've added buoyancy tanks at both ends and pvc pipe through stern and bow for rope.

Here are some shots of it's launch at Lake Burley Griffen.

    Welcome to the forum.

Love the build and the sense of humour in the title.

Nice work evh! Good idea to add buoyancy tanks, it's something I'd do too if I built a QC.

Agreed on gaffer tape and duct tape, they are horrible, can tear out grain and leave residue. For your next build, now that you got the bug, use the PVC stuff below. It's strong, very little stretch, doesn't leave residue, sticks really well to itself when you have to do multiple wraps and doesn't tear out wood grain. The used stuff tossed on the ground still sticks to your shoes though.

Thanks for the tip Canoath. I think it was Bear sliver PVC duct tape I used, and yeah the residue was horrible. It didn't stick that well to the wood anyway, so I had to keep repressing the tape down while waiting for the epoxy to set.

    Very nice evh!

Now to build the drop-in-sailing rig - canberra lakes seem made for sailing.
