    Default Quick Canoe Sailing Rig

    Hi Mik --
Long time fan, finally have a garage for a shop. I have the QC plans and the drop-in outrigger plans. All I need now are the plans for the recommended sail rig, leeboard, etc. I imagine they'll come with guidance on location of akas, mast step, etc.

Awhile back you replied to someone in this forum that the Electric QC would be better for a sailing setup. I got the impression that the greater freeboard would better fit the aka geometry. If that's the case, how much higher should I make the gunwales on the QC, or should I get the other plans? Since my crew is not into tippy boats, I plan to use the canoe exclusively as a trimaran.

Congratulations on your good work, and the happiness you bring to the world

    Thanks...

    Bob Norris

    Howdy,

The Canoe with outriggers is something that has tuo be worked through rather than a standard package with all the details.

Email me and I will send the extra info. There are a number of things that you can do to make it go together more easily. The single spreader bar for the standard canoe should be replace with two that are approximately where the drop in outrigger crossbeams will go.

Also there is the matter of the sail. Whether to go with the original sketchy lateen or use the OzRacer sail with the bottom removed up to the first reef. That gives a sail area in the mid 60s (sq ft).

The electric does give more space and probably has a higher top speed.
