Default Is the Raid 41 a phantom ship?

    Hello
I beg your pardon: I am French and I have some difficulties when it comes to speaking english. A few days ago I discovered Raid 41 by chance whan having a look on you tube. I hadn't seen this plan on Michael Storer's site neither on his page on "Duckworks". I plan to partly build a french boat in the same spirit ( Chantier M.E.R. - YouTube ) and I wonder if anybody knows why Michael Storer seems to have given up this plan wich was undoubtly a clever and interesting little boat.
Excuse me if the answer to my question was already on the forum: I checked but didn't manage to find it!

Thanks for your answer. I cannot read everything, too difficult for me, but I think I've understood that Raid 41 has met some trouble when capsizing...
So bad... The idea was so fine!

Anytime you capsize a boat, you're going to have trouble and are already in trouble. I don't think there's anything intrinsically wrong with this design, even with it laying on it's side.

As far as I know MIK Storer chose to move on to a new design - which you can find on this forum here...

    Cheers,
Thanks for this information. I've found, with some difficulties, a few pictures of the 12'GIS. The 12'GIS and the Raid 41 don't have the same "spirit" . The latter is a raid boat, as her name has mentionned it, and the 12'GIS is a funny boat, just for speed pleasure. Furthermore, the 12'GIS seems to be a pure sailing boat, and I'm looking for an a very good sailing boat and a very good rowing boat, for the security and for extending the navigation plans (from the sea to the river).

As I recall the problem was it was very very difficult for a lone sailor to re-enter a capsized Raid41. And if the sailor lost contact with the capsized hull it had a tendency to blow away faster than you could swim to catch it.

Been there done that and it is scary stuff. I used to sail on Lake Washington in Seattle and I had people who wanted to swim when we were becalmed. I insisted that someone had to be in the boat at all times so we didn't get stranded in the middle of the lake while the boat when on its merry way when the wind came up.
