    Default River boat question

Right as SOMEONE had to do it ... it may as well be me!

YEAH!!! First thread to me!! ...well other than your own excusing yourself for getting your own wee area that is ...first OFFICIAL question thread is mine!!

About this Riverboat of yours mate...

    1) what size outboard? ooops my bad just read the blurb on your site... 10hp duhhhhh!! shes plannin on around 25hp is that too much and should she go to the larger design?... if so what issues re trailerability (they drive a duel cab landcruiser so plenty of ooomph)

    2) is it setup for the outboard like the simmons or is it simply hung of the transom? oooppps bad me again... I now having checked your site have found that the outboard does indeed hang of the bum... mmm can we do something about that do you reckon? personally I cant abide the look of an outboard sittin on the back of something so good... sorta detracts eh wot?

    3) Is the 50% off price quoted on your site mean I pay 50% of $120 or is that already discounted the 50%?... this question isnt answered on your site so no trifecta ol son!

I was recently asked by my sisters life partner to look into a river boat that she and I can make for her and my sis as they move toward their retirement and well although theres a swamp load of river boats out there and houseboat types I kinda like the river boat on your site... and hell it looks sooooooooooo much easier to build than clinker which by the way she wants but she doesnt have a clue so its what I want that matters shes just bankrolling the thing!!

    Cheers!

If you are talking the 27 footer???? Then a single 15hp Yamaha will do it easy. She will whip along under that. The Bolger Tennessee type boats that Duck Flat did in the past whizz along at 7 1/2 at cruising speed - maybe a know and a half more at full revs. The 27footer is shorter - so speed might be a little restriced by shorter waterline. She will exceed hullspeed easily, but that's where the guestimating starts. Hullspeed will be around 1.3 x 5 about 7knots

I don't mind the look of an outboard on the back - it is in a notch so not so visible except from the aft quarters.

The hard part to answer is that if you take it inboard so it is hidden away you lose almost 4ft of boat by the time it swings up - that's not a big problem with a 35 footer - but for a little 27 footer it is a big bite.

The original hire and drive versions of the 23footer had a skeg the depth of the outboard leg - so the outboard could be fixed full down and only take up 18" of boat length as it never would have to swing back. But when the first amateur built boat had the OB in a notch on the back I had to agree that it was a better solution.

Actually I have never minded the look of the outboard on the back. It is simple and honest - like the boat sorta gives some design cues of trad boats, but plainly isn't trad.

Thanks for that Dingo!!!! I did the old 87% fat free, OMO washes 34.37% brighter as proven in University tests.

The prices shown there are the reduced ones - so I'd better fix that immediately!

    Best wishes
    Michael

Thank you for your untimely response mr Mik sir

mmm now on thinking about this matter I see youve picked up on the 27ft version when in fact I was muttering about the 23ft version... rather shifty of you ol son but I guess a blokes gotta try to up the ante where he can a bob is a bob an all that eh

ANYHOW!!... looking at that 27ft version I see youve "done a bolger" and added a centreboard up front why is that if I may ask?... I say "done a bolger" simply cause that man has this increadible penchant to doing things slightly off the wall and I noticed he had a rather large forward centreboard on his St Valery design

Okay another thing... Thinking out loud here... as I do occasionally can we say make her as per standard and about the water line or just higher change the method of construction to her topsides from the ply sheet method to say the method old Iain Ougtred uses in his designs (ala ply "clinker" style) yes yes its gonna mean more work I know but hey at the moment Im thinking thats all.

HEY!! Ive got another question for you mate... hang on a tick an I'll start a new thread!!!

So $150 is it for the 27fter? no special deals? mates rates you know

    nah its all good
    Cheers
