    No, it's not a Storer design but Mik has written an article on how to make them go fast and I did use his custom foil templates.

    I've been working on it off and on for several months and finally got it on the water today. I think I'm really going to like the boat.

    They are a great little boat.

    Did you do much optimisation of the timber sizes and species using the mins and max in the plans/rules?

    No, I cut on the template lines and split the tolerances on most of the dimensional lumber. I did make the board and rudder maximum width.

    I'd read about pushing the limit on the transom chine corners to flatten the bottom there but that means fiddling with the curves in three places. If I were doing serious racing in Australia I'd make the extra effort to optimize everything but I seriously doubt there will ever be a Sabre fleet in the US.

    Carl Cramer at WoodenBoat did give the boat some publicity but it didn't seem to generate much interest. My Wooden Boat of the Week

    We're having a serious drought in NW Oklahoma and the lake at the club doesn't have enough water in it to get out of the harbor. Since there's no racing going on no one at the club has seen the boat. I may be surprised, there's a possibility that a few dinghy racers will want to build one after they get a look and try it. It is a nice looking boat and I think it will sail as well as it looks when I get some time in it.

    I've been studying your tuning guide but I'm wondering if it's out of date since all the measurements are still in inches and feet. You also don't talk about setting the draft in the head of the sail using the compression straps on the full length battens.

    Thanks for the background info Brad.

    I didn't mention letting the monster vang tension used upwind in strong stuff off as you go round the top mark (or just before) either!

    You get rather interesting side bend in the masts used in OZ. Almost looks like they will bounce out of the step. You still use lots of vang downwind .. but not to the same extreme!

    I probably neglect the batten advice because most boats in Oz have full length battens. So we do that routinely!
