Default Sail OK - Four Days of Fun and Excitement

Come sail and visit with Mik and other small boat designers and sailors at Sail Oklahoma on Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma. This year's Sail OK will be October 4 - 8, 2012. Sail OK is four days of activities (fun races, poker runs, other games, demonstrations and presentations), food, music and camaraderie and the event is rapidly becoming a benchmark for small boat gatherings. Last year 130 people and over 50 boats took part and more are expected this year.

Mik himself will be there as a featured speaker and participant, presenting "Building the Storer Quick Canoe," and "Lugsails 101." Mik will also be part of the Ask the Designers Forum on Friday evening.

Come, bring your Storer designed boat and share in a great small boat mess-about. Sailing, presentations, meeting other small boat builders/sailors, music and food. Oh, yes, there is food - wonderful food served 3 times a day. The food alone is reason enough to attend this event!

Howard Rice, Dave Nichols, Richard Woods, Dave Gentry, Mike Monies and Jim Michalak are also featured speakers along with MIk.

There are no fees for anything including the food and tent camping for the four day event. Come, bring your boat or just come for a great time. Got questions? Ask me or go to: SailOklahoma : Sail Oklahoma Boating Festival!

    Come for the food…
Stay for the sailing (and other stuff)!

And Bob says you have to bring the Highly Coveted, Much Disputed, Limited Edition, North American GIS Championship Burgee. Something about him boarding your vessel and wresting it from your icy grip...

Sometimes when I read between the lines, I see things that maybe aren't there... But we all know it takes an icy grip to sail by-the-lee with The Designer aboard. Don't let his multi-masted boat psych you out. Get the Burgee!

If ya can catch me, board me and scuttle my mighty ship, that is when ye can have da flag. That is me challenge fellow pirates. Are ye goat enough to try? Forget me icy grip mates, dat darn crocodile got me hand and all I have left is a hook but beware dat hook is sharp as da croc's teeth. ARGHHHHHH!

As my son would say, "Aw snap!"

The man is going to flaunt the goat burgee on some non-goat (s)cow? Do what ever it takes man! Grab MIK and have him show you some secret mojo. (You know he secretly wants a pure GIS to reign supreme.). For the love of all Goats, make things right!

Argh! I'm so bummed out. I have time during those dates and recently booked flights to see my sis and spend a day at the Annapolis Boat Show. That's all great fun but had I known I would have made this event in a heartbeat. It's only 950 miles from my house.

Correction that's 1200 miles. Still would do it to.

Sail OK is great fun. Simon, pencil it in for next year - you can count on it being the first weekend in October. No telling who will be there next year but I wonder in Mik can make it two years in a row.

As for the burgee... It began as a trophy to represent fastest bestest Goat sailor as determined in head-to-head competition... The Paulina Lake showdown between my Karen Ann and David Graybeal's Sisu never really materialized - mainly because David had some rigging issues, at least that was his story. At Sail OK, John and I never faced off in any sort of race. It just wasn't a competition. The one day we went sailing together was just a grand time on the water. John got a number of photos of my Goat and later, on the beach, John gave me some tips on reefing. When time was winding down for Sail OK, 2011, it seemed to me, in the Corinthian spirit, John should hold the burgee until such time that he passes it on.

The idea evolved to create a journal - both hard copy and digital - to document the adventures of each Goat holding the burgee. This idea hasn't come to fruition - although I purchased a journal and memory stick. When I find the thread/discussion of last year's Sail OK and the Goat burgee, I'll post a link to it.

Maybe when the East Coast gathering takes place the burgee - or a different one - can be used as a trophy.

In the meantime, I'm throwing together a couple more booms and a new yard to take to Eufaula.

Nevermind, John. I thought we'd go at it with cutlasses. I guess we'll have to out-nice each other with famous Maine lobster and ice cream.

You'll have to google it ... but it shows an elegant rhyme with cutlass.
