    Hi Bob,

I thought there was only one person asking about it ... but there are two ... I've messed up.

Sorry. I'll chase up email addresses in my files and make sure both people have the same info.

    Hello everyone,

I am back at it. this must the slowest quick canoe build ever. I epoxied and fiberglass-taped the outside. however i chose not to fill the very, very tiny holes, thinking what could possibly go wrong. after the epoxy cured i noticed bubbles underneath the fiberglass tape where the very tiny holes were.

how do i deal with this? your help will be very much appreciated.

May I suggest a syringe most chemists (drugstore) sell them for less than a dollar (in Australia at least). Drill a small hole into the void and inject the epoxy.

    Cheers Dan

As long as there are not any pinholes through the tape it will be OK.

Pinholes under the glass tape are no problem. They are not big enough to reduce strength much at all and the glass tape will prevent water getting in.

Plus you have follow up of paint/varnish which will protect them further.

oh crap. I wish i had read this before proceeding. When i poked the fiberglass i noticed that it was quite weak and i wasnt sure if the injected epoxy would completely bond, so i removed the offending piece and filled the gap with thickened (with wood flour) epoxy. hopefully this will be an ok solution.

I used 6 oz tape instead of the 4 that was recommended. only because when i was shopping for materials i couldnt find 4 oz tape. Do i need to completely fill the weave with epoxy or can i fill the very little that is left with bondo? I want to use the bondo to help hide the fiberglass tape. Then paint it with porch and floor paint.

I have to admit it is hard to cover up the nice epoxy. from 5 feet away even with my unsteady hand (serious lack of skills) it looks nice.

Wow, coming up on 3 years! Must finish the "quick" canoe!

Instead of using knees i want to enclose both ends of the canoe. I would also like to have the deck sit flush with the gunwales as opposed to on top. I would also like to give it a little bit of curvature. Could someone give me directions on how to shape the ply so it fits properly?

    thanks,

    blue sailor.
