For one, the QC tracks much straighter due to the skegs and keel (I'm assuming). This also makes it more difficult to turn. We also noticed that while the QC seemed to be much more stable with one person, it seemed to be a little less stable two up. The opposite was the case for the Eureka with it feeling more stable two up. These opinions are also based on a 20 kt day in cold water. I didn't want to find out the limit on these canoes.

The Eureka is very quiet in the water. It must have to do with the twist in the bilge panel as there is no flat side for the water to hit. There is no slapping sound like you get with QC. We were in 1 ft waves and the Eureka cut through them as if they weren't there.

The Eureka was a bit harder to handle on a windy lake as it was happy to drift sideways across the wind. I really look forward to a calm day in the spring to really get a feel for her.

Perhaps I'm not as skilled a paddler as I thought I was...

Yeah, you were in a 24lb non-keeled canoe by yourself with an absolutely blowing crosswind in some places and an open dam a few feet to your starboard... I don't think you need to worry about your paddling skills, brah.

The Eureka is definitely a Cadillac when up with two people. The fine entry of the bow and the extra chine gave it that slicing suspension feeling that makes the world feel like it's on a mattress. A good mattress. Beautiful lines, Mr. Loaf has done a great job, when it's finished it's going to be slick, for sure!

The QC was a little less stable with two of us because the temporary seats were installed higher than recommended. Not to mention you and I are really a bunch of dancing monkeys when we get into boats anyway...

True. We may as well have been a couple of 500 lb gorillas.

I was looking for an appropriate picture.

But could only find an inappropriate one.

I seem to remember it is important not to make eye contact.

Pretty similar to hanging out in a rough pub.

So here's what I've been up to lately. Since it's colder here now and the boat is in an unheated space I made a form shaped like the curve on the top of the bulkhead and built the deck in the warmth of my basement. I now have a lot of sanding to do. You can see the curve that the deck already has, that way I'm not flexing it too much into shape.

Howdy, it will need light glass on both sides. I've seen a couple of laid decks without glass on one side or the other and they do tend to move around a bit and crack at the seams.

Now that the weather has finally improved I have had the opportunity to get my Eureka out on the lake quite a bit (though it still has no rear seat and I have other finishing touches to add). My wife is happy with its stability and how it paddles. It really does paddle like a dream.

That said, I only have one complaint: it looks too damn good. Mik, in the future, may I suggest you design uglier boats? All these compliments at the lake are cutting into my paddling time. It really is a nice looking design and I'm still impressed by how light it is and the fact that it came from just 2 sheets of plywood. Well done sir!

Photos? How the heck can we contribute to the compliments if you don't provide photos?

Seriously, you showed us progress photos re the deck and then tell us the gawkers are cutting into your paddling time. So, let's see some photos of your Eureka (please)!

I know! I'm sorry. I'm on the road right now and I don't have any access to good photos. I suppose I could post one or two not so good photos. I'll get to it later.
