Normally there is some trimming, but that sounds like too much. The bulkhead is over height to allow for some deck curve

Did you put the four temporary spreaders in the right places when the width of the sheerline was set - and was the gunwale temporarily clamped in position?

Just recheck the widths at the points where the temporary spreaders go in.

Any chance of a photo? Just take it with a digital camera and either shrink it down to 800 x 600 or less - or email it to me so I can see and I will put it up here too.

I checked the width on the spreaders several times and they are correct. My plans only called for 3 temporary spreaders though. Have the plans changed? The gunwales were not clamped in place when I checked the fit of the bulkhead.

I've tried to link a photo here, maybe it will work.

I had the same trouble when I built my bulkheads, they were as far out as yours are at the moment. I don't know why mine were so far out of whack but it isn't a problem. There is a post in the Eureka Sticky or the PDR Sticky I think, that shows you how to measure up odd shaped pieces, I will see if I can find it for you if you haven't seen it.

Nah. It will all work out fine. The three spreader version is the current and correct one - so the boat is about the right shape. There is enough meat there to trim them down.

I leave for 19 days and without my constant nagging you managed to stitch her together?! I am dumb-founded, I was sure I would come back and it would be in the same condition as we left it.

Damn, I knew I shouldn't have posted that pic. I was going to say that it was still in pieces and shock you with my progress.

So I've been doing some thinking about this Eureka and I was wondering whether the seats were a necessary structural component of the canoe. If possible I was thinking about making them removable. Would this compromise the strength?

The seats are part of the structure to some extent, but the structure without seats is OK.

Why do you want to have them removable?

Mostly for increased versatility. If I'm going solo with my dog there would be one less thing in the way. It would mostly increase floor space in the boat. I figured if I can do it, why not? Once they're glued in I can't go back. If you think it'll work I might give it a try. If so I'll certainly post pics. I already have it worked out in my head.

It might be good to restrict the dog a bit by leaving the seat in - just so it settles down and stays in one place. So might be good to leave the seat in for a larger dog. If it is a poodle or fox terrier or other small lively dog - might be good to have it removable as it will keep the dog lower down in the boat.

So upon looking at my canoe after allowing the glass strips on the inside to cure I noticed a depression at the join on the bottom panel which also extends into the bilge panels on both sides. It is even but doesn't really look right. I checked all the measurements and they are correct. I'm assuming this isn't supposed to be like this. Is there anything I can do about this or just deal with the fact it will never be a 65 kt hull?
