Ok, well, I read the comments, and maybe Mik is more on the "Periphery" of this project than the article leads one to believe, but awesome nonetheless.

Mik, when you do cool projects such as this, regardless of complete ownership over the project or not, you should post them here too, I for one, would be interested.

How ironic (for me, anyway). The whole reason I ever found this forum, MIK, the GIS (and lately the OZ Racer formerly known as PD) was because I was researching Catboats and folding masts. I ended up becoming enamored with the GIS and put my thoughts of Catboats away for safe keeping. Almost freakish to be honest.

BTW, that's beauty of a boat regardless of MIK's humble contributions. If it were a tad smaller, 16', I would be obsessing over it as well.

So does this mean you're going to build a GIS? Hmm? Hmm? You want a test sail? Hmm? You gotta come North, but hey, my GIS is open to all.

    1) I don't own a wetsuit
    2) If I did, I could never rock it like you do (I'm skinny too, but not that bold)

Seriously, I'm putting the GIS in the mid-term projects hopper. I actually think I want to build a OZ Mk3 first with my 10-yr old son and have purchased the plans. That will either confirm or deny that we can be a sailing family, trailering around the northeast with a homebuilt bundle of joy. As it stands, my 35-year old Sunfish sits dormant in Vermont (4 hours away from me in NJ), waiting for me/us to put her to use.

My fantasy? My son (or daughter) hiked out on the 'Fish getting splashed and whooping it up while I tool around in the Goat that we built, my wife shooting the video. There should be a dog in there too. Maybe his name will be Gilligan (not likely). Later, I retire to my workshop where construction continues on the Storer Cat...

You're a cool dude, Dave, a cool dude. I like your vision and it sounds like you've got it planned out well. Make it happen with your own OZ MK3 homebuilt bundle of joy. Take pics!

They actually well and truly predate my section on this forum. The other one I am particularly proud of is the "Orange Boat" - which I think made it into these pages - but is definitely on my website.

    Wow ... I am amazed.

It might be a bit of support too - I was having a bit of trouble with one chap rubbishing some of my designs in a consistent way - and this is a way of balancing things out.

Carl Cramer, the editor has been very kind I think.

    So Mik,
Out of curiosity, in a few years when Sash and I have moved up to Toronto where she is from, and I get the itch to build something I can sleep aboard while exploring the Georgian Bay, will I be able to purchase your modification drawings so I can build my very own Fenwick Catboat a la Storer?
It might be a fun project!

It is a BIIIIG project Al,

Lot of surface area for a short boat, a tricky rig and hullform meaning the engine is very useful. Huge amount of space for the length and as cute as buttons.

But yes - all my existing data will be available to you. A couple of bits might cost you something, but most not.

Like the article says - I was involved in some of the steps, but David Wilson at Duck Flat did a lot of interpreting on the way through. Which is kinda why I have taken a lot of photos of the boat too.

    Cool!

I think that in a few years i might need a BIIIG project. The Goat Island skiff was too much fun to build. For now though, I'll sail around in my skiff, and daydream of evenings spent working on my catboat! Maybe i'll make a model of the Fenwick for fun sometime before then.

I have a good friend who had a 19' or 20' Marshall fiberglass catboat, and spent a few weeks a year for over a decade cruising in between Long Island Sound to Cape Cod. He has lots of good stories, I'm going to want some of my own too.

    Cheers,
    Al

Oh yeah, I'm gonna do some repair and refitting of my pdracer sometime this winter.
Sanding, patching holes and dents, and a new off white paint job in and out.
Will post many pics when i finally get to it.
