    Default 6090

After asking a few very basic questions in another thread it seems a cheap chinese set up may be a good starting point.

I do have access to a full sheet cnc, although I have never used it.
It is at Uni and can be difficult to find time to use as it is constantly in use by many students.
I want to be able to learn at home and will scale projects down to suit a smaller machine if necessary.

Looking at this machine on eBay, anything I should consider?

Gecko's seem pretty popular here but I don't really know what they are
I am pretty savvy with electrical and electronic work and reasonably competent with CAD.

Given that I was prepared to pay for a full sheet machine, I will have a pretty good budget for upgrades to a smaller machine if necessary.

Basically I don't want to spend too much time mucking around building one from scratch.
I realise the chinese machines may not work out of the box but from what I can gather here they are a reasonable starting point.

    The specs are:

CNC 6090 Router Engraver Drilling and Milling Machine
    X,Y,Z Working area: 600x900x70mm
    Max. Feeding ≤100mm
    Outside dimension: 1200x850x150mm
    Table size: 1100mm x 750mm
    Lathe structure: 6061Aluminium alloy
    Stepping motor: two-phase 57/3A
    Drive unit: 1605 Ball Screw
Sliding unit:: X-Φ20mm/Z-Φ13mm Chromeplate shaft Y-Φ16mm Linear motion ball slide units
    Maximum speed: 0-4000mm/min
    Engraving speed: 0-3000mm/min
    Repeat positioning Accuracy: 0.05mm
    Spindle motor: 1.5Kw 3 phase & VFD 1.5
    Spindle speed: 24,000RPM/MIN
    Cutting tool-holder: ER11/3.175mm
    Spindle radial error motion: ≤0.03mm
Control unit: 3A Three-axis Independent stepper motor driver ,Spindle Speed Regulation System
    Command code: G code/.nc/.ncc/.tab/.txt
    Machine weight: 2 x 50kg(including packaging)

Does anyone have experience with these machines?

Is it possible to add a different collet and use 1/2" bits or will a new spindle motor be required?

    Probably the
mod important question I have is the 70mm Z axis.
    Is this restrictive?
Is it from the bottom of the collet to the working table?

If you do a search for 6090 in this (CNC) forum, you'll find there are quite a few of us with this model. Most bought from different eBay sellers but basically the same thing.
The most common problem is with the supplied stepper controller which is where the Gecko stepper drivers (most commonly the G540) are used as replacement.

When you've digested all the relevant threads, come back and ask us a few questions.

not shore if the control box also has the VDF , and the type of VDF , but if you can get $400 of the cost of the 9060 ,without the control box , it would be well worth it ,

but then you have to enough electronics knollage to hook up the gecko , Estop ,PSU ,VDF
how come a 10mm peg dont fit in a 10mm hole

Today I had a look at a second hand, very well made, full sheet machine with vacuum table.

I just need to find room for it in my shed which I think is possible.

This will work well for me as all I need to do is step back in time and source a computer running windows, load the software, and I will be up and running.
