Was at my sons place thins morning checking out his latest productions
After a number of blobs he's finally starting to churn stuff out.
So far he has made about a dozen components to upgrade the printer itself (e.g. printer stand feet, plastic stock feed feeder roller, a bracket for the extruder head fan, Finer cogs to run higher TPI belts, etc)
A bunch of parts for his robotic car - everything apart from a set of set of fine gears has worked out
    A 35 x 35 x 15 mm plastic case for a micro webcam for the robotic car.
    A thimble
A spool to hold a roll of solder.
    SolderRollHolder.jpg
A case to hold a small LCD screen for his raspberry-pi computer that he runs the printer with.
    RPcase.jpg
He has it running virtually all the time he is at home.

To set up the printer, last week my son borrowed a set of digital callipers which I picked up from him while I was visiting his morning.
When I got home I got out of the car and put the calliper in its case on the roof of the car while I
got the dogs out of the car and into the house and completely forgot about the callipers.

Just now I went to buy some takeaway for dinner and took off down down the street - had to wait ages to cross the Highway and then quickly whipped across fand into the takeaway driveway.
While whipping into the firedrivewayI heard a rattle but didn’t think anything of it.

Went the the takeaway drive thru made the purchase and was driving out and sitting in the middle of the driveway entrance was a small black box.
I had no idea it was the calliper but I thought it might have something in it so I stopped and . . . . .
    Still working fine . . . . . Lucky eh!

My Son has finished dabbling with my printer and gave it back today as he has jut bought a Delta 3D printer.

It moves the print head in X-Y-Z and keeps the product stationary.
Early 3D printers moved the product along one horizontal axis and the print head in the other horizontal, and in the vertical direction.
It can print in nylons and metal powder impreganted nylon as well.

Here it is in comparison to my little printerbot
The delta prints many times faster as well

The onus is now on me to learn how to drive the printerbot.

I know it's a bit late now as they're long gone from most stores, but the Aldi 3D Printer was a rebrand of an Wanhao Duplicator i3 v2, and it's pretty much the best bang for your buck 3D Printer on the market right now.
You can get a Wanhao direct from China for a little over AUD$500 shipped to your door. http://www.aliexpress.com/store/120824

Here's a review from a young Aussie industrial designer who is quite the 3D printing guru on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd5EvrnQC5Q

They delta my son bought is about that price - I know what I'd rather have.

Thanks for the lead - I'm not into these small cyclones but others may be. certainly can't fault the price. When a 3D printer can build one for less than that price I might make one )

I bought one of the 2017 Aldi 3D printers, and thought I'd better show this replacement Triton part I've just printed

Cool; does it have the same flexibility and strength as the OEM finger?

To my non-calibrated fingers, it seems pretty much the same.
With a 3d printer, I have full control over the thickness of the outside layers, the amount of infill, and a choice of plastics to print it in, so I can choose to make it more or less solid or stiff as I require.
I could also change the design, for example I might put a profile on the rubbing surface to match a contour, rather than just the standard straight edge.

There's a business there for someone willing to print replacement parts for those Bessy clamps where the plastic release latch was not UV stable

Finally got around to neatening up my air lines - and it was a bit of a multi-disciplinary project. The regulators came without mounting brackets, so a bit of CNC.
3D printed hose clips and blanking plugs, and near the end found about wire-wrap clamps, so made a tool for that. IMG_20180730_143406.jpgIMG_20180821_133038.jpgIMG_20180824_143735.jpgIMG_20180825_160856.jpg

I got one of these for $299. I printed a few things and then the nozzle blocked. I have finally cleared it and I'm test printing again.

It also has to be sent back to get a firmware update at some stage.

I want to print a few things first.
