carving programs
hello everyone
have a left field question
at the moment i have 2Dcut but am thinking of upgrading to Vcarve pro
with Vcarve Pro can i copy and paste (import) a simple black and white drawing like this
gallery_1265_3_12362.jpg
to Vcarve pro and use that as my template to add all my size and cut depths etc
i have tried to do it with 2D cut but its not to be, unless i am doing it all wrong
thankyou in advance for any feedback
cheers Tony

i only have cut2d cut3d and photo cut
in CAD you should be able to import the image and trace the shapes with a " spline " and use that new file in cut2d
i did a similar thing with this one > https://www.woodworkforums.com/f170/free-cad-files-160627/
but used 3d sphere's to edit the straight edged result , from tracing and extruding , would need cut3d for this file ( a belt buckle )
i think v-carve pro will let you import grey scale images , and set the depth for each tone of grey , i have not tried it , so cant comment on that programhow come a 10mm peg dont fit in a 10mm hole

Yes, VcarvePro will allow you to import and carve this in 2D. If you want to do it in 3D then you will need Aspire

V Carve Pro (and Aspire) has a function to "auto trace" the imported image with vectors. The resulting vectors are then used to create toolpaths.
Personally, I usually prefer to manually trace images, which gives smoother toolpaths. But a great many users are happy with the automatically generated vectors.Gerry

Just for anyone looking. Theres a great program out there at a great price for us hobbyist call vector magic. Makes outline tracing of images like this a breeze. They have an online demo you can register for a get an idea of the power of it.
