OK well I did have the Parallel cable still connected. I'll have a look again with it out tomorrow, but I'm really getting to the stage where I just want to chuck the whole box out and start again with a G540 Kit. I know it'll have it's own share of setup problems, but at least it's documented, and has local support. Means another $500 invested, but the way I'm going I'm likely to lose that on trying to get this other thing running.

Unplugged the parallel cable & booted it again. Still one LED not lighting, so I guess something's stuffed on the stepper board now too.

I'm going to start a new thread to see exactly what all bits I need to build the G540 + VFD kit. I'm think I'm just about done with this controller. I don't think it's even worth the hassle of trying to gut it and reuse the enclosure for the G540 is it?

i bought one of them chinise CNC's as well havent got it out of the box yet (8 months ago)
after all i have read am not smart enough to find and repair all the stuff ups, think i might just rip out all the electrics and start again using aussie supplied stuff, so much for a cheap CNC

What's your machines model Number and name , some of the china made stuff works well ,

the walter 6545 4 axis is what we have , but ive heard good comments about the 6040 from the same company ????

Hi Tony,
Not everyones experience is the same. I got one just to see the build quality and it works perfectly well including the fourth axis. I did replace the spindle but that was my choice and not a faulty spindle.

Even if the electronics are stuffed (mine isn't) I doubt you could build one to their quality for the price. The T slot table I pay around $500 for here and just that component takes you to a quarter of their full machine price. If you were building your own machine in Australia I doubt you would select the Toshiba drives anyway.

Perhaps if one thinks they are getting a machine with stepper motors connected rather than a turn key solution it might put it in a better perspective. It takes me three to four months of nights and weekends to build a machine so if you don't have that sort of time then these are a good alternative.

I am not detracting from the problems people are having but I would have tossed out the electronics if mine wasn't working and not waste time and money on getting it going.

Assemble your machine and make connections. If any of the steppers do not lock up on power on then toss the electronics. If they do then you have a fighting chance of getting it going.
If you do replace the electroincs then unless you have had prior experience expect to have a learning curve and some problems in assembly.

I don't mean to sound harsh but these are the realities of buying a Chinese machine.

I certainly wouldn't give up without trying it all. Mine's only taken ages to get this far as it took 2 months to resolve teh dispute about the missing/incorrect cables I got, then another couple of weeks for my electrician brother in law to make replacements. It didn't take me long to find out I'd blown up the box, but the bits that were working, when they were working, worked fine. you might be lucky.

As for the cost, even with me replacing the electronics, which still has to be completed and will be several more weeks, price wise I'm still a couple $1,000 ahead of my next option, which was purchasing a ady-to-go setup from the $US.

If I were you, I might give my BIL the flick next time around.
You said he charged you for wiring up the CNC and it still didn't work. As far as I am concerned, this is the sort of stuff that family members get for free unless the recipient member is using the item for making a profit. And even then I would usually donate the time.
Over the years I have spent weeks and weeks fixing up my family's and friends computer problems at no charge. Of course, as soon as I fix it they break it again. Hmmm, maybe I should charge on the basis that people tend not value so highly things that they get for free.

Of course, every family is different and so if I am speaking out of turn then I apologise.

That's OK Bob, I know what you mean. Mixing business & pleasure so to speak is always a recipe for disaster. I'll just chalk this one up to one of life's little learning experiences.

forgot that, the model its a 6040, i guess everyone is right i wont know until i try
but from what iv been reading i am starting to get a little nervy, moving into a bigger shed
oh and the wife into a new house over the next few weeks, so i think over the next few months will tell if my fears are correct
Rodm- was planning on keeping the frame work if everything fails that atleast gives me
a base to work with as for the learning curve i would be kidding myself if i thought this was going to be a walk in the park, but am hoping if i ask the right questions (and proberly some dumb ones) with a bit of luck someone out in computer land might steer me in the right direction
