Closed Loop Stepper Motors
Have been doing a bit of reading on these. I have not come across an Australian supplier yet.
Just wondering, if there are any major drawbacks with these?
I assume 'cost' may be the main one? Maybe, motor complexity ( feed back )?
Any others?
At first thought, they seem to be an obvious choice for a new CNC Router build?....

Hi Steve,
The stepper motor has an encoder mounted on the back end of the stepper and they need a driver board to keep track of postioning. For my money I would be looking at servo motors and drivers which are a better system for a closed loop design.Cheers,
Rod

Hi Steve
I am using "Leadshine Easy Servos" which are steppers with encoders, they use their own driver, 3 of mine are 8nm the other two are smaller, they have never missed a step or faulted and are quite a bit cheaper than servos.
I purchased them from Ocean Controls in Melbourne.

Are they easy to setup compared to a regular stepper motor? Do they work with mach3?

Hi Com_VC
All I did with mine was plug them in. The encoder wires go straight to the controller and wire the breakout board the same as any others, there is tuning software available but I haven't used it as I think the motors are fine as they are.
There is no reason that Mach3 wouldn't work as the breakout board is the interface that controls them.

I'm impressed. Not for everyone, I guess , as they are a bit spendy, but I am interested to learn more.
No distributors, which will make postage dearer.
Anybody got any ? Do you like them?

I’ve been using closed loop steppers from a Chinese supplier called cymotor. Just ordered my second lot. 12nm nema 34 for a Bridgeport CNC conversion.
