Cutting Help (brisbane)
Hey fellow CNCers,
I was wondering if there is anyone in brisbane who can help me cut some parts for my new machine? I'm going to be cutting from 23mm MDF and was hoping to not do it by hand if I can help it. The largest piece requiring the kind of accuracy is approx 2x A3 pages end to end and 1x A3 wide.
If you can help that'd be ace.
Thanks
Mark

I find it funny (not haha) that on a forum for CNC that no one is able to help out in QLD. I must be the only one making a CNC up here in the extreme weather state.

I'm in Brisbane and I've built a CNC.... but there's no way my CNC will cut precisely in 23mm MDF, I've got a hard time making anything as accurate as I'd like in 12mm MDF right now so.... I get a feeling my problem lies in the 750W makita laminate trimmer I use for my CNC. Anything faster than 400mm/min @3mm depth just makes the machine lose steps and ends up having crap tolerances (At least thats what I assume)
I guess that's the main disadvantage of building your own CNC, there's a whole lot of tweaking necessary to make it as good as you'd like it to be.

Yep MDF is PITA to cut I always cut it a 2.5mm slow and steady but not so slow you create a fire been and done that.
I think we have a couple of Mechmate guys around in brisbane may be worth sending them an email you will find them on the Mechmate forum I think.
Trying to talk the wife into buying a house that has a quaker barn out the back so I can build my next machine maybe it will be a mechmate not sure yet or a smaller extrusion build time and $$$ will tell.I like to move it move it, I like to move it.

Yeah, MDF is a PITA to cut. Hence my desire to see if I can pay someone to do it for me. I do know a few commercial places and will give them a call on monday. I'll let you all know how I get on.
I was trying to avoid cutting by hand if I could as I want to get the best possible start. Rather than having a semi-average start and then spend then next immediate time after that cutting upgrade parts.
Thanks for the replies though folks. I'll have a sniff around the mechmate forum again.

Hey folks,
thanks for all the replies, pm's and phone calls. I did end up getting things cut and will begin building the x-axis and z-axis in the coming weeks. It's all coming together and I'll take pics and vids as time permits.
my ANSI40 precision roller chain (30ft) arrived yesterday. bazinga! I'm just awaiting my order from McMaster Carr and I'll have everything I need to build this bad boy.
cheers
Mark
