    Default Digital Wood Joints

Over the last week I have been looking for information on a "clip tenon". I'm making bunk beds out of ply for a friend and came across this YouTube clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y8LFyyr09k). It has been an interesting ride with lots of diversions. One track led down to finding this magnificent resource which I thought would be good to share here.

It comes from FlexibleStream Open Design Source and has a downloadable PDF showing 50 different types of wood joint you can cut on your CNC including the drawings in various formats including DXF.

    Check it out: http://www.flexiblestream.org/projec...al-wood-joints

Thanks are due to lots of very creative and hard working enthusiasts and professionals out there but especially for this post: I J Browne YouTube video and Jochen Gros for his great job on the 50 digital wood joints.

I also stumbled upon this awhile back, very good resource. I'm in the process of converting some of the designs to parametric models using EngView. This will allow me to simply edit the length/width/height/material thickness of a box then all of the cut paths for the joints will automatically scale and output a file I can send straight to my CNC.

Here is another guy's blog post where he has tested some of the designs on ply, I found it helpful when trying to visualise some of the more intricate joints.

And a couple of posts on Make with some 3D visualisations:

Finally, Open Desk have a bunch of furniture that use these joints. Many of the designs are downloadable and free for non-commercial use:
