Flexible Motor Coupler
Hi Guys
I am looking for a flexible motor coupler. 6.34mm (1/4") one end and 8mm the other.
These are the standard ones that Chai sells with his ball screws.
One of mine broke last night so machine is out of order unit I replace it.
Not 100% of the cause, off the Y ball screw. It has had a bit of a short hard life, has been removed several times while sorting out a bent ball screw, so it may have been fractured during that saga.
Do anyone know where I could find one in Oz? I have looked at Homann Designs, AusXmods, Ocean Controls and cupcake CNC.
I can get them from Chai but want to see if there were any local.

That was my next option.
Have a lathe and all the good toys at work so that will be an option.
Just trying to see if there was some around that I did have to modify

Just looked at a bit of HD 1/4 fuel line. That would keep me out of trouble except no room for hose clamps .
Wanted to get it up and running before I go away for 2 weeks Christmas holidays

I got 3 spares from Chai ... with shipping from China they worked out to be $12 each. If you're interested shoot me a PM.

If you're really desperate, Jaycar have a spider coupler. It would need boring as it's for a 6.35m shaft.

Just had a look at the Jaycar ones and they have way to much backlash.
Looks like spidey4fun might have some.

If you have access to a lathe, I made some out of a couple bits of 16mm bar drilled and grub screwed with 40mm length of whipper snipper drive cable in the middle. There are plenty of dead trimmers about and one will provide enough cable for about 20 couplings. The cable is double wound in opposite directions so in short lengths there is virtually no torsional give, but it will flex laterally.
Hope this makes sense and is helpful. I twisted off two spring couplers before I made these.
Cheers,
Tim.Last edited by Thunknker; 8th January 2011 at 09:58 AM. Reason: Missing Pic
