image to CNC
Good morning. I have a manual router copier, however I am considering the purchase of a CNC Router.
I have never seen one (outside adds or u-tube). I would like to be able to take an image and reproduce it on timber.
What is the process I would need to follow? How does one go from an image to having the CNC machine produce the image on the timber?
What software would I need? Is there any tutorials that would walk me through the steps?
Are people importing images in to CAD (?) then somehow transferring that to the router?
I know absolutely nothing of this process and would appreciate either advice or direction as to where I can find this information.
Thanks
I
Norman

IMO the best way you could get grasp of the concept, is to go to the Vectric site and watch all the relevant videos that look like they may cover your questions.
That does not mean you must use Vectric software but it will be very informative as to what can be done with a CNC router.

Hi,
There are websites which convert a bitmap (jpg, bmp) to vector format (dxf)
https://convertio.co/jpg-dxf/
Online Image Vectorizer
Results can be patchy, and most lines in bitmaps will appear as a double line in dxf, requiring a lot of editing in the CAD/CAM program. I've found CamBam to be pretty good at this, as it will explode a polyline into little segments.
Cheers
