Angry Isacon - HY Askpower A131 VFD parameters for induction motor request

    Hello folks
I have just bought one of these VFD's and the programming is totally different to what I was expecting.
I thought I was receiving another Huanyang drive, and was surprised when I saw the manual.
These drives are apparently made by Isacon or Askpower although its called HY series in the manual too.
It states the same model number on the sticker as the "real?" Huanyang drive HY02D223B for the 2.2KW version.
Although I have found a reference model to the Askpower VFD, which goes by A131.

These VFD's have very different components to the Huanyang.
If I had known better I would have made sure it was a Huanyang drive.
To spot the difference, look for the tabs in the casing on the top of the unit, blue stickers and different button functions

I hope someone has parameters for an induction motor somewhere

    Thanks if you do!
    A bemused Tomas in Ireland

It looks like you have a manual so you're in a better position than anyone else that hasn't.
Is there a problem with the manual.

    Hi Bob
I have jogged down the necessary parameters from another CNC forum.
The parameters I have taken down are as follows...these values might not be correct!!!!
This will be for either my 12" tablesaw or my 24" bandsaw.

I'm in Ireland so were on 50HZ, and these motors are 2 pole motors.
I have not wired this up yet, as I have some questions...
I read that these things are always changing, so I can't be sure if things will correspond with the guide on the forum.
This guide is for the Askpower A131, look up...
ASKPOWER A131 VFD User Guide/ Manual

My VFD and manual has no mention of Askpower A131 by the way!
Apparently these drives are not suitable for induction motors, and are a kind of custom spindle job...
I'm guessing this is because there is no terminal for a braking resistor.
By the way the earth is in-between the input and output terminals, despite what may be embossed elsewhere.

I will check the production date in the parameters to find out which one I have, hopefully it's the same.
I am unsure if I have everything in sequence, or if it needs to be.
I have questions at the end.
    Here we go...........

First thing first, I think it was said its to do parameter restore and reset afterwards.

PN 32 - Set to 3 restore default parameter, then set back to 1 to reset parameter.
PN 01 - 2 (pole motor) possible RPM required, referral to PN 12
    PN 02 - 50 Hertz
PN 03 - ext terminal 1 is for the pot
PN 04 - run command for switches 1 for VFD keypad, set to 2 for switches
    PN 05 - 1 clockwise rotation only
    PN 08 - accel time
    PN 09 - decel time
    PN 10 - 50 HZ max frequency
PN 11 - set to 5 (especially if using a pot) min frequency
PN 12 - 50 HZ motor rating frequency
PN 13 - 1 (careful of this one as you can damage your motor! torque compensation (default at 0 in manual) unsure about this one.
PN 14 - 40 for adjustment for torque at lower RPM (default 500Hz seems wrong, but whatta I know?)
PN 17 - 30 adjust braking voltage for DC braking (same as factory default)

The things I'm unsure about is...
No parameters for input voltage, or motor voltage. ?
No amp rating for motor ?
Not sure yet if RPM will be entered, or if motor pole number will take of that. ?

I have not looked into wiring the switches yet
I hope 3 wire control can be done the same as on the Huanyang inverter
    I will keep ye updated

    Hopefully I'm not missing something
    Thanks for reading
    Tomas

    Hello again
Got it working using settings above
I have only turned it on and made some light cuts with it, but it seems sound.

These ones are quiet, as in... the fan only runs when the motors running, so I designated this one for the bandsaw,
as I'm more likely to leave on for small cuts,
and moved the Huanyang with it's sinister hum from the constant running fan to the tablesaw.
I was thinking, it was going to run the motor at 400Hz as the fan activated a few times during programming.
Beware! .... these things have programmed default motor speed, set to 400Hz !!!
... Making sure my motor is hard wired into the VFD, and that its set to correct motor speed before hitting run button.

It seems that you cant wire three wire control without buying a relay, I thought there would be one in the small terminals like the Huanyang,
but... I failed to figure out if there is a way without the relay.
I could buy one easily along with switches on ebay for just a few quid but I'm not waiting...I'll get it again
Instead I just got a basic light switch and wired it from FOR to GND, a bit daft looking compared to the old switches

    So far so good ...
